Your homeowners policy won’t pay the ransom
That’s what this page is for
You've worked hard to build the life you have. More of that life now sits behind a password: banking, investing, the smart home, family photos, your kids' social accounts.
A standard homeowners policy is built for fire, theft, and a cracked pipe. It is not built for the call that says your files are encrypted, your camera feed is in someone else's hands, or a wire left your account because a text looked like it came from your bank.
The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center put extortion among the three most-reported cyber crimes in 2024, alongside phishing and personal data breaches. That is the gap this page is here to close.
Personal cyber insurance is how you and your family get help the same day, not a lecture after the fact. We offer it through Tokio Marine HCC's NetGuard® SELECT, a policy built to help protect your finances, your identity, your devices, and your peace of mind.
Coverage is offered through Tokio Marine HCC, rated A++ by AM Best.
This policy can pay the ransom
Ransomware is a cyber extortion event. Someone in the house clicks the wrong link, opens a file, or follows a text that looks real. A hacker locks the system or the photos. Then they demand money to give it back.
NetGuard® SELECT is written for that moment. If a covered extortion event happens, the policy can cover the ransom itself and the cost of hiring an IT expert to walk you through the crisis. You are not expected to negotiate that alone, and you are not expected to pay that ransom out of pocket and hope a homeowners claim picks it up later.
That is a separate coverage part from stolen money. Extortion is the lock-and-ransom. Cyber crime is the phishing wire, the stolen password, the fraudulent transfer. You may need both on the same week. This policy is built to respond to both.
Six things your other policies leave open
They lock the files and name a price
If files or devices are locked and someone demands payment, coverage can include the ransom amount and professional help to get you through it.
A wire left because a text looked real
If money is stolen through phishing, an unauthorized transfer, stolen passwords, or a similar scheme, and your bank or card company will not make you whole, coverage may help replace the loss.
The photos and the laptop, back
Coverage may help pay IT professionals to remove malware, restore compromised devices, and recover lost data, including the photos and records that matter most.
Someone opened credit in your name
If personal information or identity documents are stolen, the policy can cover the costs of credit reports, credit monitoring, and legal help to restore your identity. Policyholders also get IDX identity tools once the policy is in force.
Harmful posts about someone in your house
If someone in your household is targeted by harmful online conduct, coverage can include therapy, temporary relocation, help removing the content, and, for a minor who cannot attend school, tutoring or a school change.
You held the team’s data. It leaked.
If you hold private information for others (a nonprofit board, your child's team) and that information is lost, stolen, or exposed, coverage can help with notification, credit monitoring for those people, and defense if they bring a claim.
Why this one, not another
We evaluated the personal cyber market and selected Tokio Marine HCC's NetGuard® SELECT because it treats extortion as a real coverage part, not a footnote, and pairs it with cyber crime, identity, restoration, and liability.
Tokio Marine HCC describes NetGuard® SELECT as cyber insurance for individuals and families, including cyber extortion, ransomware, cybercrime, online fraud, cyberbullying, and identity and privacy protection. Policyholders can activate IDX identity protection, fraud alerts, and dark web monitoring after the policy is issued.

On every option, cyber extortion and cyber crime sit at the same limit as the policy. Not sure which is right? Call us. This is a five-minute conversation.
For business owners: put it on your people
NetGuard® SELECT is personal cyber for individuals and families. It is not commercial cyber, and it does not cover the company's systems, email, or business accounts.
What many owners miss is the household next to the business. Executives and key people carry the same personal ransomware, phishing, and identity risk as any other family, often with more money in motion. We can put NetGuard® SELECT on those people as individuals. The company can pay the premium if you want. Each person still has their own policy.
If you want to open that conversation for your leadership team or key people, call us. We will walk the limits, who should be covered, and how billing works. This does not replace a commercial cyber policy for the business.
Three questions. Then you’re covered.
- Answer 3 quick questions about any prior claims
- Review the coverage description and required application wording
- Select your limit ($250,000, $500,000, or $1,000,000) and make your payment
From there, we complete the application on your behalf and the carrier issues the policy. No lengthy forms. No back-and-forth.

We’ve seen the six-figure wire
Falcon West has been protecting families and businesses since 1981. Over four decades, the risks our clients face have changed. Some of the most damaging losses no longer start with a fire or a fender bender. They start with a click, then a demand.
We've seen successful families lose six figures to a fraudulent wire, spend months untangling a stolen identity, and scramble to recover a lifetime of photos from a locked device. Most learned too late that the homeowners policy was never built for that.
We treat your family's digital life the way we treat your home, your autos, and your business: worth protecting properly, with people you can actually call.
